Chicken cabbage rolls

You will need:

  • A cardboard tube
  • Piece of string
  • Cabbage

What to do:

  1. Thread your piece of string through your cardboard tube, and tie a knot.
  2. Fill your tube with pieces of cabbage, tasty herbs, and your pets favourite vegetables.
  3. Hang up for the chickens to enjoy!

Rodent & small pet crackers

You will need:

  • Rat mix, guinea pig or rabbit mix 
  • 1 piece of A4 paper
  • 1 cardboard tube

Rat mix recipe:

Combine rat nuggets, mealworms, sugar free cereal, rat museli, selection of rat-friendly vegetables such as carrot slices, broccoli, mini corn on the cobs.

Guinea pig & rabbit mix recipe:

Combine hay and fresh forage such as rose, heather, sage, tyme and blackberry.

What to do:

  1. Take a cardboard tube, and add the handful of rat mix into it on one end. Be careful to cup your hand over one end to ensure the mix doesn’t fall out the other side!
  2. Place your cardboard tube on a piece of paper, and roll it up.
  3. Twist the ends to ensure the rat mix stays inside.
  4. It’ll now look like a cracker. All done, and ready for your rats to enjoy!

Cat mice

You will need:

  • Material
  • Catnip and stuffing
  • Thread & needle
  • Scissors

What to do:

  1. Cut 2 pieces of material to the shape of a mouse
  2. Cut two ear pieces
  3. Cut a piece of string to make a tail
  4. Sew the 2 pieces of the mouse material together, sewing in the tail and leaving a small hole.
  5. Add the stuffing and cat nip, then sew up the hole
  6. Finally, sew on the ears

Hamster & gerbil hotel

You will need:

  • 2 x small cardboard boxes
  • Cardboard tubes (empty kitchen roll or toilet rolls)
  • Scissors 

What to do:

  1. Cut a hole in the side of both boxes that is big enough for a cardboard tube.
  2. Push cardboard tube into the holes to join the boxes together.
  3. To finish your hotel, add more cardboard tubes and cut out a little door on the side of the boxes, so your gerbils can get in and explore!

Christmas dog biscuits

You Will Need:

  • 240g flour
  • 180g flavouring - choose from grated cheese, peanut butter (that doesn't contain XYLITOL), flaked fish (check for bones first!), chopped liver, pre-cooked minced lamb or beef, wet food or dog biscuits, grated carrot.
  • 2 tablespoons olive, sunflower or melted coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of either honey or syrup
  • 1 teaspoon of either cinnamon, parsley, pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds (optional)
  • A little water, if needed

What to do:

  1. Preheat over to 180c
  2. Place flour and chosen flavouring into a bowl.
  3. Add the oil and honey, and mix with your hands into a crumble-like mixture.
  4. Add your choice of cinnamon, parsley, pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds if you wish.
  5. If needed, add some water to make the mixture come together into a dough.
  6. Roll mixture into a thin sausage shape and cut discs by hand, or with a cookie cutter.
  7. Place on a greased baking tray and put in the middle of the oven.
  8. Cook biscuits for 25 minutes or until they are golden.
  9. Allow biscuits to cool on a wire rack before serving.
