Did you catch ITV’s ‘Top 100 Dogs’ program in March 2019? The two-and-a-half hour show saw the country’s 217 recognised dog breeds whittled down to a top 100.
This time, the nation’s favourite Labrador was knocked off of the top spot, and into a very respectable 3rd place.
The rise in cockerpoo numbers over the last 10 years has been incredible, so it was no surprise that they were voted the 2nd most favourite dog this year. Energy and stamina from the cocker spaniel, and the intelligence of the poodle, along with their love of companionship can make for a delightful pet. Their beautiful coats need to be considered – for this crossbreed, professional grooming is recommended/required every 4-6 weeks. We do see a tendency for possessiveness in some cockerpoos, which is sometimes seen in cocker spaniels, too. Owners should get help ASAP from a qualified behaviour trainer if their dog or puppy starts to guard, or steal things.
Here at Wood Green, The Animals Charity, we are delighted to see that Staffordshire Bull Terriers were voted the UK’s number one dog. The ‘Staffi’ truly is a great companion dog, and deserves to be number 1 this year. This affectionate, friendly, outgoing dog loves to be around their family, their families friends, or just about anyone and everyone. They love a good walk, a game of tuggy, and a lap on the sofa is their favourite resting place. So, it’s not surprising that they’ve made it this year!
