When it comes to pets, we've all got questions
Ever feel like your pet is from another planet?
Hamsters are solitary creatures and should live alone.
As with all small pets, Legolas will need to be housed securely away from any other pets in the home.
Hamsters spend most of the day time hiding away and sleeping. They are most active during the evening and overnight.
Legolas is no different. Currently he is not keen on handling and prefers to do his own thing. He is young and could build up confidence with time and patience, however he may always be a hamster to admire from afar rather than up close.
As Legolas has been known to occasionally bite during handling, we would recommend older children if any in his new home.
Dwarf hamsters need a cage or a tank measuring 100cm wide, by 50cm deep, by 40cm high. If you have a cage the bar spacing should be no more than 7mm.
All hamsters need a minimum of 6 inches of substrate around most of their enclosure, with a deeper digging space of at least 10-12inches (25-30cms) to enable them to create burrows and nests.
Meet the very handsome Legolas!
He is your typical hamster, he really enjoys making tunnel systems in his tank, he currently has a nice long burrow to hide away in. He has occasionally popped his head out during the day, usually when there is more food added to his enclosure. Legolas likes to gather up this food as quickly as possible to stash away in his tunnels for later.
Although he prefers not to be handled he has been known to take a mealworm or two from our hands in the mornings.
