French Bulldog Potato

Kept in a crate for 24 hours a day

Two-year-old Potato has been through a lot in her short life. She’d had three different owners before she was adopted by Ayesha from a rescue centre. Poor Potato didn’t go outside for a walk until she was 14 months old, and in a previous home, she was kept in a crate without a break.

Despite finding peace with Ayesha, sadly, Potato’s behaviour changed when her owner became pregnant. Ayesha noticed Potato had become aggressive towards her male partner, a behaviour which started when Ayesha’s partner touched her baby bump, triggering Potato to react aggressively. With a baby on the way, the pair were keen to solve this problem and contacted Woodgreen for help.

Behaviour and Training Specialist Ciara

Our experienced team knew exactly what to do!

Our behaviourist Ciara discussed the ways Ayesha could tackle Potato’s tricky behaviour and created a step-by-step training plan. The plan turned out to work wonders for Potato! Ciara also offered guidance on preparing Potato to live with a new baby.

Whilst it took a lot of time and patience, Potato has come on leaps and bounds with her behavioural issues. She’s much more confident around dogs and people, and no longer protective over her owners. Amazingly, Potato’s behaviour improved enough for her to be able to stay in her current home, and with the added reassurance of everyone’s safety, Potato has been getting used to a new small human in the house – we’re so proud!

Helping pets like Potato for 100 years

Woodgreen’s beginnings are rooted in one person’s heartfelt determination to stop pets from suffering. Miss Louisa Snow opened our first shelter in 1924 at a time when society was struggling with the devastating after-effects of the First World War. Many were unable to afford to care for their pets – leaving countless animals abandoned and vulnerable on the streets, facing imminent starvation, illness and other dangers.

While the world around us has changed unrecognizably, the challenges facing pets and their owners have remained largely the same. Likewise, our founder’s desire to help pets in need is shared by kind supporters like you to this day.

Thanks to your ongoing generosity, you’re helping to provide food, shelter and loving care for all pets great and small. With your support, you can help us plan and look forward to the next 100 years at Woodgreen.
