The story of the Wonder Puppies

A Lucky Discovery

This vulnerable litter of puppies, thought to be Terrier mixes, was first spotted by a group of builders. Recognising the puppies’ desperate situation, the builders rushed them to a vet who then contacted Woodgreen.

They were in very poor health but our team were relieved they had all made it through the horrible ordeal. Inspired by their miraculous survival, the puppies were named after ancient Wonders of the World: Macchu, Picchu, Petra, Giza, Taj, Rhodes, and Babylon.

Fighting for their lives

When the puppies arrived at Woodgreen, our Vet team set to work, giving them the urgent medical care they desperately needed. This included medicated baths to soothe their painful skin, eye drops, antibiotics, and mite treatment.

Babylon needed dental surgery to fix a severe overbite, and Rhodes had fractured teeth removed in another procedure.

Blossoming Personalities

As their health improved, the puppies’ true personalities began to shine through.

Carer Katie said: “At first, they were all really nervous and it was obvious they weren’t used to much affection. They were just so sad – we could tell how much pain they were in…After about a week most of the group were feeling a lot better. It was lovely to see their little personalities coming out.”

Once their infections were under control, the puppies were able to get out and about for some vital socialisation. Our Dog team carefully introduced them to new sights, sounds, and textures.

A Fresh Start

One by one, the wonder puppies found loving new homes and were ready to take on the world! Petra, now called Betty, is thriving with her new owner Mark.

“She seems really fit and well, with her fur growing back nicely. She has integrated with our dog Bobby and follows him everywhere.”

The transformation of these puppies – from sick, frightened strays to healthy, confident companions is nothing short of incredible. It’s all thanks to the dedicated teams at Woodgreen, and the pups’ own amazing resilience, that they’ve been able to turn their lives around.
