Nora was tied to a farm gate and abandoned - left to suffer in the cold overnight. Almost completely blind, she was unable to see any approaching dangers around her.
No dog should suffer like Nora.
Emotional shutdown
A full health check by our veterinary team revealed that her skin was sore and infected, her nails had overgrown, she had matted fur, dental disease and ear trouble. She also had extremely dry eyes which must have been causing her a lot of pain. Nora was also in a state of emotional shutdown. This can happen when a dog’s needs have been neglected for so long that they won’t eat, walk, bark or play
The pressure builds for Nora
Severe glaucoma had caused Nora to go almost completely blind and the continued build-up of pressure and dryness in her eyes must have been excruciating. Sadly, the only way to ensure a pain-free future for Nora was to surgically remove both of her eyes.
Thankfully the operations were a success and with ongoing care, medicated baths and encouragement from her foster carer, Nora’s confidence and strength began to grow.
Finding a loving home for Nora
After suffering such a traumatic ordeal, Nora needed patient and understanding new owners and a home free from clutter; where it would be easier for her to find her way around without bumping into things.
Fortunately, new owners Chris and Karen ticked every box on Nora’s wish list. We received a wonderful recent update from them: ‘Nora seems to really enjoy life; her tail is always wagging, and she’s taken to barking long and loud until someone joins in her favourite ball game’.
In all her time at Woodgreen, staff had never heard Nora bark, so it’s wonderful to hear she’s found her voice and it’s your gifts that make these happy endings possible. Thank you so much for helping abandoned dogs like Nora to smile again.
