Give more pets emergency veterinary care
After falling months earlier, Luna seemed OK and was only given pain medication and left to recover. The two-year-old came to us as an emergency case, struggling to breathe and with one of her kittens stuck during labour. Sadly, Luna is far from an isolated case.

Give suffering pets like Luna a second chance
Because Luna's owner couldn’t afford a proper vet check, the true extent of her injuries remained unseen – and untreated. Can you give more pets a second chance at life?
First she lost her kittens. Then she almost lost her life.
Luna’s pregnancy went horribly wrong, but a complicated labour was only the tip of her troubles. And this was due to a whole heap of ‘hidden’ problems that just couldn’t be seen from the outside or fixed without expert veterinary care.
Most of her problems could have been avoided if she’d received timely treatment a few months before. But her owner simply couldn’t pay for it. Many pet owners simply can’t afford a large vet bill in these difficult times. One in five pets are not receiving the veterinary treatment they need purely for financial reasons.
For months, her injuries went unspotted and untreated until she became an emergency case with nowhere else to go but Woodgreen. Her story reveals the hidden harm being caused by the cost-of-living crisis.

Luna came within a whisker of death, not once but three times.
Luna’s x-rays, which cost more than £130, showed a ruptured diaphragm – which acts as ‘wall’ between the abdomen and chest. This meant her liver, stomach and colon were all squashed up inside her chest cavity. And without expensive x-rays her family would never have discovered the true extent of her injuries.
As Luna’s story shows, it’s not always easy to see what’s going on inside a pet. Your donation will not only enable our vets to work their magic in the operating theatre. It will also help prevent suffering by enabling us to find many other ‘hidden’ cases.
Together we can put a stop to their suffering.
How rising costs are affecting Woodgreen
As well as seeing more pets in a much worse condition, we’re also seeing our own costs increasing – and in some cases doubling. Here are just a few examples:
A raised bowl
Increased by 50%
A raised bowl for an older cat, or one wearing a buster collar after surgery – up by as much as £4.
A special heat pad
Increased by 47%
A special heat pad to warm up a pet who is dangerously cold has gone up by as much as £7 – from £15 to £22.
A bag of cat litter
Increased by 100%
£50 would once have bought 9 bags it now buys only 4 to 5. We fill around 230,000 litter trays each year.
Small and large toys
Increased by 50%
An outdoor scratching post for a cattery run – up by as much as £50. That’s £111 more on just four essential items
