Our social media and moderation guidelines

Woodgreen’s social media channels are there for us to stay connected with you; we want to share and celebrate the work you help us to do. We’re also there to support you with any of the challenges that come with pet ownership.

To keep you safe, we’ve created a set of house rules that we ask you to follow if you use any of our social media channels.

Any comments or posts that do not meet our guidelines will be removed. We will take measures including blocking or banning users who violate our rules, and this will be done at our discretion.

What we encourage

  • Use our channels as a forum to share and ask for pet-related advice.
  • Tell us about your pet, share anecdotes and pictures for other community members to enjoy and interact with.
  • Stay on topic. We encourage discussion about pet ownership and our work, so your conversations should remain relevant.
  • Respect others – we ask that you use respectful, non-judgemental language and treat others with kindness, even if you disagree with their opinions.
  • Stay safe online and only share information you’re happy to be in the public domain.

What we don’t allow

Please be mindful when interacting with your peers on social media. We take a zero-tolerance approach to any harassment or abuse, and won’t tolerate comments which:

  • Are abusive or threatening towards people or pets
  • Are judgemental of other pet owners
  • Are hateful or discriminatory based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, age or other protected characteristics
  • Contain offensive language including swear words
  • Contain content of a distressing nature
  • May be considered fraudulent, deceptive, misleading or unlawful
  • Contain any defamatory or libellous remarks
  • Attempt to solicit personal or sensitive information from others.

We’ll also remove:

  • Spam content
  • Third-party marketing or promotional materials
  • ‘Off-topic’ comments which detract from the community we aim to foster

Our moderation approach

We actively monitor Woodgreen’s social channels from Monday to Friday. Due to the volume of comments we receive, it may take a little while to moderate all comments, and we encourage you to report anything you feel is unsuitable. Where channels permit, we have set up filters that automatically remove some content, such as profanities.

Report your concerns

If you see any comments that breach these guidelines, or if you receive inappropriate messages from other community members, please email us at digital@woodgreen.org.uk, with a link to the post. We also encourage you to report offensive comments using the tools built into each social media channel.
