Keeping pets and their people together
When a change in health, sudden vet bill or an unexpected crisis leaves loving owners feeling they have no choice but to give up their pet, the impact can be deeply traumatic for both. Woodgreen steps in before a moment of crisis becomes a heartbreaking separation, offering free, practical support to help keep pets and their people together.
By easing the pressures that push families to breaking point, we help keep pets in the home where they belong: safe and loved. This is how we rescue.
And when staying together isn’t possible, Woodgreen continues to care for pets, giving them the support and kindness they need until they can find another loving home.

Woodgreen: the story so far
Woodgreen’s story started in 1924, when our first centre in north London was opened by Miss Louisa Snow. She wanted to help care for abandoned and injured animals after the First World War.
Today, our centre in Godmanchester is where the magic happens, with state-of-the-art treatment and care facilities which enable pets to get the specialist care they need. In recent years, we’ve been growing the support we offer to pet owners in the community and online – keeping more pets in loving homes.

The Dog House
Since 2019, Woodgreen has been home to Channel 4’s smash-hit TV show The Dog House – following the journeys of our four-legged-friends as we search for their perfect match. We’re super proud to be able to show the difference we make to the lives of pets and people. The show has given our work a level of exposure we could only ever dream of!
