Pet advice from Woodgreen
From behavioural issues to dietary needs and everything in between, we’ve got yo...
At Woodgreen, we do so much more than rehoming. We’re passionate about helping people at every step of the pet ownership journey – and that includes being there for pets and people in local communities.
Our dedicated Community Outreach team provide support which helps to prevent common behavioural and medical issues in dogs, cats and small animals. This can reduce the likelihood of someone ever having to give up their beloved pet.
Whether it’s being there in a crisis, carrying out health and wellbeing checks or delivering vital supplies, our team keep pets and people together.
For many pet owners, our community outreach services are a lifeline. But there are a lot of people who reach breaking point before finding the right support. Whilst a significant number of pets are handed into the care of a charity like ours, there are others who are sadly abandoned – and the numbers are currently surging.
Financial pressures are one of the leading causes of pets being given up. It has become increasingly difficult for owners to provide everything they need to care for their pet in the best way. Heartbreakingly, many are having to rely on support services and foodbanks to keep their pet. There’s also been a worrying rise in pet owners needing help with their dog’s behaviour, with many having missed out on essential training during the pandemic. These are just some of the many challenges facing pet owners today – but we’re here to help.
"It's good to have someone who really understands my situation - I really do appreciate it."
At its heart, our team’s work is focused on prevention. This means providing pet owners with advice and support that could avoid, or spot the early signs of, common medical and behavioural issues. We provide this advice face-to-face in the community, while also offering support online and on the phone.
As well as working to prevent issues from occurring, we also respond to calls from pet owners and our partner organisations in need of urgent help with a pet. From concerns about a pet’s welfare to owners struggling to care for their pet, we’re always on-hand to help. Through our range of services, we do whatever it takes to help pets in need. This may include home visits within our catchment area in Cambridgeshire, as well as financial support where appropriate.
By continuing to work closely with pet owners and our partners in local communities, we’re keeping more pets and people together.
Woodgreen’s community outreach officers work tirelessly in the community – championing good pet welfare and providing support that helps to keep pets in their loving homes.
