Woodgreen’s story started in 1924 and while we’ve grown as a charity, our determination to help pets in need has never changed. Find our FAQs below to learn more about us.
Woodgreen’s pet care facilities are not open to the public
We only allow visitors to our Welcome Centre when they have an appointment.
Our on-site charity shop is open as usual for browsing and donations.
Along with other leading pet rescue charities, we no longer allow members of the public to visit our pets. This is to protect the animal’s welfare.
You can see all our pets looking for new homes on our website. We update these pages regularly, so do check back if you can’t see a suitable match just yet! Once you’ve fallen in love, start the rehoming process by:

All of the pet advice on our website (including blogs, images and videos) is produced by our team of behaviour and welfare experts.
Woodgreen is unable to provide financial support for pet owners who live overseas, or health and wellbeing checks for their pets.
From behavioural issues to dietary needs and everything in between, if you’re looking for advice, we’ve got you covered. Get expert support and guidance 24/7 with our library of pet advice articles.
The advice and information on the Woodgreen website is free to everyone and is a crucial part of our mission to ensure that all pets live a happy and fulfilled life with their owners, and that we can help before someone has to make the heart-breaking decision to part with their pets.
Our advice will always remain independent and expert-led. Our pet experts have over 100 years of experience caring for dogs, cats and all kinds of small animals.
Across our website, we use ‘affiliate links’ for some of the products or services our experts recommend. These work the same way as normal links, but if someone clicks through the link from Woodgreen it is tracked, and we may receive a small payment.
These small payments add up. They help us ensure that Woodgreen can continue to provide free advice and support for pet owners and, should the worst happen, be able to take a pet in and help them find a new home. The vast majority of our funding comes from individuals making a donation.
Our advice articles are written by our pet experts and that will never change. When published on our website, we then look to see if any of the products or services our experts recommend are available via an ‘affiliate’. If they are, we will add an affiliate link. If there’s no affiliate link available, it still remains our experts’ recommended product or service, it’s just that we won’t benefit from that recommendation.
Because our experts often recommend individual products, we may link to a wider retailer such as Amazon or Pets at Home. We’ll link directly to the recommended product, but we can’t be held responsible for the suitability of other products a retailer may sell or recommend. Sometimes retailers will change their product range or stock, and our links may become out of date. We’ll do our best to update links but if you see something that doesn’t look right, please let us know.
