Christmas kittens – Sprout, Mistletoe, Angel and Holly

Heavily pregnant Tabby Lola found herself in Woodgreen’s care when her owner couldn’t look after her any longer. She gave birth to four beautiful kittens just in time for Christmas.

Lola lived with three other adult cats and three kittens. They all had fleas and lived outside because of the owner’s severe allergies towards them. Their owner had struggled to cope after inheriting them from a relative. So, they reached out to us to find the cats new homes.

Minnie, the other adult female in the house, arrived first with her three kittens. We whisked mum and babies off to foster care, before welcoming Lola and the two male cats to Woodgreen. Three-year-old Lola was given an urgent examination with our Veterinary team, which included a general health once-over, her first vaccine, treatment for the fleas and a blood test to rule out two different viruses. Thankfully, these came back clear.

While in the vet room, the expectant mum kept rolling on her back to show off her bulging tummy – resulting in lots of belly rubs from the team! We suspected Lola had several days to go before giving birth. She spent her first night with us in our Cat Care Centre, where she was looked after by Laura, from our Cat team. Lovely Lola climbed straight on to Laura’s lap for fuss and snuggles. The following afternoon, Lola went to stay with one of our experienced foster carers to await her impending due date.

But Lola was much closer to having her babies than we originally thought! Within hours of arriving at the fosterer’s house, she successfully delivered four healthy kittens. We named them Sprout, Mistletoe, Angel and Holly. We’re pleased to share mum and kittens are doing well. Proud Lola took everything in her stride and has adapted quickly to her new role. Harriet, from our fostering team, tells us: “Lola is a wonderful mum and a very loving cat to her foster family.”

A foster home for Christmas

Lola, Sprout, Mistletoe, Angel and Holly will be spending Christmas in their foster home. Once the kittens are old enough, we’ll begin the search to find them, and their mum, loving new homes of their own.
