Foster guinea pigs, rabbits and other small animals

Could you give a temporary home to one of our furry friends? We’ll provide everything you need – and expert support during the pet’s stay with you.

How fostering makes a difference

There’s no place like home. For small pets who would benefit from extra care and creature comforts, a stay with a fosterer can do the world of good.

As well as offering an environment better suited to their specific needs, it can help them prepare for life in a permanent home. And it can even make that day come sooner.

Fostering is also a great option for our long-termers who are harder to rehome. This could mean extra space to roam and more companionship with both pets and humans.

Why foster a small pet?

Our centre is home to guinea pigs, rabbits, mice, rats and hamsters. As a small pet fosterer, you can take care of a pet when you have the time available to dedicate to them, with no long-term commitment. This can be great if you have a lifestyle which makes it harder to have a pet full-time.

We’ll provide everything your foster pet needs, so it won’t cost you a penny! And our teams will be on-hand at every step with round-the-clock support.

So, why not become a fosterer and play a vital role in our pets’ journeys to happiness?

We’ll take care of everything

Once you’re ready to foster, we’ll provide all the supplies you’ll need. This can include:

  • Food and treats
  • Pet cameras
  • Brushes
  • Other grooming supplies

Whatever your pet needs, we’ll make sure you’ve got it!

How to foster a small pet – and what we’re looking for

We’re looking for volunteers who can offer temporary foster homes for small animals such as guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, mice, and rabbits. You’ll need sufficient room for an appropriate cage or run.

For some species, this will mean enough space to roam freely in a secure room away from other pets. Complete the application form below and we’ll check what pets in our care may be most suitable for you.

To be eligible, your home must be within a 45-minute drive of our centre in Godmanchester.

Get started by following the steps below.
