Giving up your pet

Every year, Wood Green helps thousands of pets in need.

We understand that things can get difficult when looking after a pet. If you’re thinking about finding your pet a loving new home, we can help.  In the first instance, take a look at our advice section.

To ensure every pet gets the best possible care while waiting for a home, we offer three different services – these are outlined below.

  • Care at our centre. We have excellent facilities at the charity’s centre in Godmanchester, as well as dedicated, experienced staff. They’ll give your pet everything they need while we search for a new owner.

  • Care in a Wood Green foster home. Some pets cope better in a different environment. We have an amazing team of volunteers who can offer our pets extra comfort and attention in their own homes.

  • Care in your home. If preferred, we can provide support with keeping your pet in your home while we find them a match. This includes expert help with any pet-related issues you may be experiencing.

Whatever the reason for finding your pet a loving new home, we’re here for you. We spare no effort to find all of our pets the perfect home. See what this involves for our dogs in this video behind the scenes at Wood Green.

Step 1

Complete our short form, and we’ll aim to reply within 24-48 hours.

Step 2

A member of our team will talk to you about your pet, why you need to rehome them, and discuss your options.

Step 3

If you decide to go ahead, we’ll arrange an appointment for you to come to Wood Green with your pet, or arrange a collection from your home. Both of these options are still available at this time, with social distancing in place.

Step 4

We’ll ask you some more questions about your pet, this will ensure that we find a home that meets their specific needs and gives them a happy life.

Step 5

Once handed over, our experts will then assess the behaviour and medical needs of your pet. This information will help us match them with the right new owner.
