Fireworks: how to keep your pets safe
Find out how to recognise fear in your pets and keep them safe and happy.
There can be other pets in the home, but the rat enclosure will need to be in a room that can be shut off from any cats or dogs.
Rats make excellent pets for all the family; they are inquisitive and affectionate and love to come out and play.
Rats need to be housed in a large cage filled with suitable enrichment to keep them interested and active. The ideal size cage for 3-4 rats is: 80cm deep by 50cm wide by 80cm high.

Whiskers has very recently come into our care here at Woodgreen. He is taking some time to settle as it has been a bit overwhelming for him being moved into a new environment. Whiskers is looking for a family that already have rats who wouldn’t mind one more set of paws in their mischief. With some help from some other rat friends we are certain his confidence will soon grow. Whiskers loves nothing more than breakfast and dinner time, foraging around his cage for the best bits! Whiskers has shown some signs of territorial behaviour within his cage, but equally very much enjoys a cuddle and his ears being massaged showing us his best eye boggles and bruxing! Due to Whiskers sometimes nervous nature he will be looking for a home who understands rat behaviour or is willing to make the effort to be patient and understand Whiskers personality.
If you have some rats who would welcome Whiskers into their group, please do get in touch with us via the website.
