Woodgreen’s dogs receive a huge amount of interest. This is great, because it helps us find them the best possible home.

How Woodgreen rehomes dogs

Woodgreen’s dogs receive a lot of interest, which helps us find them the best possible homes. Many of the dogs in our care have faced significant challenges, including behavioural or medical issues that may require ongoing care. This means they’re looking for a special person who can offer them extra love, time, and patience.

When you adopt a dog from Woodgreen, our expert rehoming team will guide you through the process to help ensure it’s the right match for both you and your new companion. We carefully assess each dog’s needs and don’t exclude applicants based on blanket rules. Whether you live in a flat, have young children, or don’t have a garden, we’ll take the time to consider your unique circumstances.

What to expect when you adopt a dog

Adopting a dog is a rewarding experience, but it’s important to be prepared. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Settling in takes time – Whether you adopt a puppy or an older dog, it could take several weeks or even months for them to adjust to their new home.

  • Training is part of the journey – Many of our dogs will need ongoing training, both inside and outside the home, which can impact your daily routine.

  • Every dog is different – Even if you’ve owned a dog before, your new pet may have very different needs or behaviours, especially if they’ve had a difficult past.

  • Building trust and understanding – Some rescue dogs may not enjoy every activity you’d like to do with them, and they might be wary of certain people or situations.

  • If adopting a dog sounds like too much pressure, why not consider fostering a dog instead?

How we help you find the right match

Our goal is to match every dog with a home where they can truly thrive. We’ll take the time to discuss what you’re looking for in a dog and what you can offer as an owner. We’ll also consider factors like your lifestyle, home environment, and any other pets you have.

For example, if we’re rehoming a dog who’s nervous around traffic, we’ll avoid placing them in a busy urban setting. We’re here to make sure the match is right for both of you – because a happy dog and a happy owner make for a strong, lasting bond.

Ongoing training and support

Adopting a dog is just the beginning. Many of our dogs will need ongoing training to help them settle into their new home and avoid potential behavioural issues. We’re committed to providing practical advice, reassurance, and support whenever you need us – because we want to see you and your dog build the best possible life together.
