Pet advice from Woodgreen
From behavioural issues to dietary needs and everything in between, we’ve got yo...
Woodgreen is proud to work with Pets at Home, the UK’s leading pet care business. Our special partnership and shared vision has made a huge difference to pets and people in need.
Over the years, we’ve teamed up with several Pets at Home stores including, more recently, their Huntingdon branch. Through a number of fundraising activities, such as their Charity of The Year initiative, Pedal for Paws (previously ‘Summer Fundraising Drive’) and Santa Paws campaigns, they’ve kindly given our charity a whopping £86,000 worth of donations. Nearly half of this amount is from their VIP Lifelines scheme.
Pets at Home’s VIP Lifelines scheme allows shoppers to sign up for a loyalty card that turns points into pounds for Woodgreen. The value of points earnt is provided to us in the form of Pets at Home vouchers. These are used to buy treats, toys and other useful items for pets in our care, whether that’s onsite or with a fosterer, as well as those who are already in a home – like Felix the cat.
When Felix suddenly fell ill with breathing difficulties, he was rushed to the vets. Felix was diagnosed with a heart condition and needed to have half a pint of fluid drained from him. His owner, a pensioner, couldn’t afford the costs so he turned to Woodgreen for help. We supported him towards the initial expense of veterinary treatment. Felix, who also has hyperthyroidism, will be on medication for the rest of his life. But with a loving owner taking care of him, he’s in good hands. And a donation of food and a toy from Woodgreen helped get his recovery off to a great start.
Woodgreen Outreach Officer, Jo, says: “Thanks to Pets at Home, our Outreach Team was able to provide Felix’s owner with free food, as well as a special gift for Felix for being such a brave boy! The vouchers have been invaluable. They allow us to give that extra support to owners to ease the pressure while going through financial hardship – meaning they are not having to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pets.”
Felix’s owner tells us, “I cannot thank you enough. It has helped me enormously. Felix loves his toy – he seems to have adopted it.”
Pets at Home provide pet owners with ‘everything they need to be able to look after their pet’. They currently have 452 retail stores, which offer ‘practical, fun and unique experience for pet owners’. The company also has 316 grooming salons and 441 ‘First Opinion’ vet practices.
