Channel 4’s much-loved series, The Dog House, returns on 28 August with emotional new stories that reflect the rise in pet relinquishment across the UK.
The first of four brand-new episodes of the doggy matchmaking show, filmed at Woodgreen Pets Charity in Cambridgeshire, will debut on TV screens at 8pm. The eighth series has a new look following a set refurb of the iconic Pen of Hope, where rescue dogs meet potential new owners for the first time.
This series of The Dog House highlights how more people than ever are being forced to part with their beloved pets. Woodgreen has seen increasing numbers of owners facing heartbreaking choices, often driven by issues such as ill health or financial struggles linked to the cost of living. As shown in the new series, other dogs arrive at Woodgreen after experiencing poor welfare in previous homes, including dogs kept in crates for long periods.

Viewers can also look forward to a Christmas special later this year, followed by six more episodes in early 2026.
Sue Ketland, behaviour and training specialist at Woodgreen Pets Charity and a familiar face on The Dog House, said: “Every day, we see first hand the challenges people face that force them to make the devastating decision to give up a pet. The Dog House gives a window into those stories, while also highlighting the hope and joy that comes when we’re able to find the perfect match. With more people needing our support than ever, this series feels especially timely.”
The Dog House follows staff at Woodgreen Pets Charity as they go about finding dogs their perfect match, transforming both the pets and their hopeful new owners’ lives.
