Dog fosterers needed for new series of The Dog House

The charity behind Channel 4’s The Dog House is on the hunt for dog lovers to foster a pet ahead of filming the new series.

Woodgreen Pets Charity, home to the BAFTA-nominated show where staff match homeless dogs with their perfect human companions, will begin filming more heartwarming episodes of The Dog House in April. The charity is looking for foster carers to temporarily open their homes to dogs that could be featured on the show, giving them a welcome break from kennels while they wait for their turn in the famous meeting pen.

Fosters carers will need to be available between March and June, with no more than 14 days holiday planned during this period. They must be able to bring their foster dog to Woodgreen’s centre in Godmanchester for weekend filming throughout April and May, as well as attend vet appointments as required. As a result, fosters need to live within 45 minutes of Woodgreen and have access to their own transport.

Helen Stapleton, head of rehoming and veterinary at Woodgreen, said: “We’re on the hunt for perfect matches for our pups and these dogs would really benefit from having a cosy foster home to call their own during filming of The Dog House.

“We know it’s easy to get attached and some foster carers do go on to adopt their foster dog. Because of the nature of filming, this isn’t possible for dogs selected to appear on the programme, so it’s important that prospective foster carers bear this in mind. However, we always have plenty of other dogs in our care looking for a loving new home.

“If you love dogs and have space to give one a temporary home, we’d love to hear from you.”

To become a foster carer with Woodgreen, applicants must:

  • Live no more than 45 minutes travel from Woodgreen’s centre in Godmanchester
  • Have access to their own transport
  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Have no resident cats in the home, as many foster dogs can’t live safely with cats
  • Not have two or more resident dogs – many foster dogs need one-to-one attention and support
  • Be able to ensure dogs aren’t left alone for more than two hours, two to three times per week, to help them settle
  • Have no holidays of two weeks or more planned between March and June
