Woodgreen’s response to proposed veterinary sector reforms
On Thursday 9 July 2026, the government announced proposed reforms to the veterinary sector, including measures to improve price transparency, strengthen consumer protections, and introduce an independent veterinary ombudsman.
Access to affordable, high-quality veterinary care is fundamental to giving pets the healthy, happy lives they deserve.
We welcome proposals to make veterinary care more transparent, giving owners greater confidence about the cost of treatment and the choices available to them. But ultimately, the success of these reforms will be measured by whether more pets get the care they need, when they need it.
The UK is experiencing a hidden pet welfare crisis. Every month, we receive more than 2,500 calls from owners who are struggling with increasing financial and practical pressures.
