Chase's chance at survival

When Chase the Lurcher was abandoned with a painful leg injury, we had to act quickly!

Abandoned with a serious leg injury, Chase the one-year-old Lurcher arrived at Woodgreen in pain. Our team acted quickly to assess Chase and get to the bottom of his injury.

An x-ray, revealed a serious fracture and our vets decided that the best way to secure this young pup a pain-free future was an amputation.

Chase’s operation went smoothly so the next step was to settle him into a quiet and cosy kennel where his recovery could begin.

Stumbles and setbacks

At first, Chase struggled to adapt to life on three paws. He was keen to start exploring but was still unsteady on his feet and also irritated by his wound which he kept licking.

Our vets gave him some medicine to limit any irritation as well as a Buster collar to stop the wound licking. With these small adjustments, it wasn’t long before Chase was back on his paws.

A fresh start

The next step was helping Chase build strength and stability by starting to go on walks. We soon found that this young pup was very excitable, particularly when meeting other dogs. Unfortunately, excitement made Chase more unsteady so our team focused on regular, short walks to help him find his feet and get used to meeting other pups along the way.

Recovery was fully underway but there was still one thing standing between this young pup and a new home… A bath!

While grooming is often one of the first things we can do to make a new arrival feel better, Chase’s injuries meant his pamper session had to be put on hold until his wound had healed.

But one long overdue bath later, Chase was finally ready for a fresh start and it wasn’t long before this excitable young Lurcher was settled with a loving new family.
