Support and Health

How much training will I need?

Needs ongoing support

Can I be left alone?

Potentially, once settled

Star came into us as a stray so we don’t know if she’s been left home alone before.

Any time home alone would need steadily building up over time after a settling in period but she should be able to do a few hours.

Do I have any medical conditions?

History of

Star has historic medical conditions, namely an umbilical hernia (which has been repaired), and we have also operated on her eyelids as they were turned inwards.

Our rehoming team will be able to give you further information if you apply to rehome her and you are a successful match.

We would also advise that any medical conditions, be that historic or ongoing, are discussed with your own vet prior to taking them home.

Due to the nature of the medical condition around her eyes, a vet call with one of our on-site vets will be required before the pet goes home.

Who I can live with

Can I live with dogs?

No

Can I live with cats?

No

Can I live with small pets?

No

Additional information

Star will need to be the only dog in the home for now, she could, however, have a few walking companions to further her socialising.

Family and environment

What kind of family am I looking for?

She can be a very bouncy girl; we feel she would be best suited to older, dog-savvy children aged 8 and over who will be understanding of her excitable nature.

What type of environment would suit me?

Star will need her new home to have a large private garden with at least 5.5ft fencing so she has a secure space to run around and play.

About Sensational Star

Star is a big, squishy sweetheart with a heart overflowing with love.

She absolutely adores her people and will happily lean in for all the fuss, cuddles, and affection she can get. With her big, charming paws, she can be a little bouncy when excitement takes over, so learning some polite manners will help—but her enthusiasm is purely happy wiggles and joyful greetings for her friends.

Walk time is one of Star’s favourite things, and the moment she spots her harness, the excitement levels go through the roof!

Star LOVES her toys and is rarely seen without one nearby. Whether she’s tossing them in the air, proudly parading them around, or carefully de-stuffing them with total focus, she keeps herself entertained—so be ready to put those sewing skills to good use!

She’s been offsite with staff, where she’ll go for a walk and then enjoys sitting outside a cafe with a pupcup.

If you’re searching for a loving, affectionate companion with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Star might just be the perfect match for you

American Akitas are gentle giants, but not exactly social butterflies. Don’t be fooled by their quiet exterior, though – they can be playful and affectionate too! Learn more about the breed at Ask Woodgreen.
