There can be other pets in the home, but the rat enclosure will need to be in a room that can be shut off from any cats or dogs.

 

Family and environment

What kind of family am I looking for?

Rats make excellent pets for all the family; they are inquisitive and affectionate and love to come out and play. Twix, Caramel and Shreddie are looking for a family who have the time to keep these fast paced girls entertained and busy.

What type of environment would suit me?

Rats need to be housed in a large cage filled with suitable enrichment to keep them interested and active. The ideal size cage for 3-4 rats is: 80cm deep by 50cm wide by 80cm high.

About Twix, Caramel and Shreddie

Caramel and Shreddie have recently been bonded to Twix, their new four month old sister. These three girls are full of energy and bring plenty of excitement – they’re always on the go and ready for fun!

Twix has really grown into her shell. When she first arrived, she was nervous and would run away to hide whenever anyone approached her enclosure. Now, she’s often the first to come over and happily climbs all over you for attention. Shreddie is the more reserved of the trio, but she still enjoys getting involved and will join in during free range time, often climbing over you once she feels comfortable. Then there’s Caramel, a cheeky girl who loves to keep you on your toes and will happily give you the run around.

All three girls are confident and enjoy interacting with their carers. However, they are still building trust when it comes to being picked up, as they currently find this a little daunting.
