What we do at Woodgreen

We’re dedicated to helping pets and their people at every step of the pet ownership journey. And, of course, we’re also here to help pets in need – giving them safe shelter, specialist care, lots of fuss and a brighter future.

How we do it

Whilst rehoming is a big part of our work, we’re here for pet owners too.

At its heart, our work is about stopping a pet from ever becoming homeless. And that means preventing and spotting the signs of issues that put them at risk of being abandoned or given up.

This work starts with reaching pet owners and equipping them with everything they need to know about good pet care. We provide expert pet advice online, on the phone and through workshops, classes and education resources. And we play an active role in local communities – championing the welfare needs of cats, dogs and small pets.

Go behind the scenes

We give you a glimpse of the amazing work that goes into helping pets during their journey with us and see how we’re there for pet owners who need our support.

Woodgreen: the story so far

Woodgreen’s story started in 1924, when our first centre in north London was opened by Miss Louisa Snow. She wanted to help care for abandoned and injured animals after the First World War.
Today, our centre in Godmanchester is where the magic happens, with state-of-the-art treatment and care facilities which enable pets to get the specialist care they need. In recent years, we’ve been growing the support we offer to pet owners in the community and online – keeping more pets in loving homes.

The Dog House

Since 2019, Woodgreen has been home to Channel 4’s smash-hit TV show The Dog House – following the journeys of our four-legged-friends as we search for their perfect match. We’re super proud to be able to show the difference we make to the lives of pets and people. The show has given our work a level of exposure we could only ever dream of!
