Donating Goods to our Charity Shops

What can I donate to your charity shops?

Items should be in a good, clean, usable condition and dropped off at your local Woodgreen charity shop. This list isn’t exhaustive and is subject to change, so you may wish to contact your local shop if you’re unsure or have an unusual item to donate.

We greatly appreciate donations of:

  • Clothes, shoes, fashion accessories and bags
  • Toys and games
  • Books
  • CDs and DVDs
  • Unopened and in-date pet food
  • Pet toys
  • Knitted cat toys (we spray Feliway on them to keep the cats in our care nice and calm)
  • Pet beds
  • Blankets and knitted blankets (recommended size of 75cm x 75cm)
  • Electrical items, providing they are PAT-tested
  • Surgical gloves and FFP2 face masks
  • Small, unopened bags of bird food to mix in with our rodent food

The charity shop at our Godmanchester centre also accepts towels and newspapers, for our pets.

What goods don't you accept?

For various reasons, there are a few things we can’t accept as donations to our shops. These are:

  • Furniture and other household items as, unfortunately, our collection service is not currently running
  • Duvets or pillows – we’re afraid it’s too expensive to get them cleaned. However, we encourage you to use the Dunelm Textile Take Back scheme, who are helping to reduce textile waste by giving it a second life.
  • Pet medications – we don’t accept any medication, even if unopened.
  • Raw pet food – we’re sorry we don’t accept raw pet food
  • Ink cartridges
  • Gym equipment – due to health and safety risks
  • Mobility scooters or wheelchairs, as we are unable to guarantee the safety of the equipment

Can I buy things for the pets you take care of at Woodgreen?

If you’d like to buy something specific for the pets we’re caring for, have a look at our Amazon pet wish list. You’ll find details of the essentials we need to keep our furry friends happy and healthy.

How do I sign up to Gift Aid?

Gift aid is a simple way of increasing the value of your gift to Woodgreen from the Government, without you having to increase your donation. We can do this automatically by ticking a box in our online donation system.

If you are donating through any other method, please email Supporter.Relations@woodgreen.org.uk with your name and address and we’ll send you a Gift Aid declaration form.

Upon donating items to our charity shops, you can fill in a form to allow us to claim Gift Aid on your donation.

Find out more about Gift Aid through the Government website.
