Barrow Vic’s happy ending

Beautiful boy Barrow Vic came to Woodgreen looking for a sofa to call his own, so we choose him as our sponsorship pet to help give him a bit of a boost.

Meet Barrow Vic, a handsome seven-year-old Greyhound. He was brought to Woodgreen because he wasn’t getting along with his owner’s cat. So they handed him into our care, entrusting us to find him a loving new home.

When he came to us, our team wanted to focus on Barry and his chase drive. He would be triggered by small dogs and instantly want to run over to say hello. A leggy boy, Barry had lots of energy and needed to burn it off effectively. He absolutely adored going for walks, so we took him out as much as possible so he could get used to seeing other dogs from a safe distance.

As much as we loved having Barry stay with us, we decided to place him in the care of Susan, a dedicated fosterer where he could enjoy a bit of extra love and attention. We wanted him to feel happy and relaxed to help him get ready to go to a new home.

During his stay with Susan, he needed special drops to treat an ear infection he had been suffering with. Poor Barry was very uncomfortable and a bit grumbly at times, but Susan was there to give him lots of fuss. He was a very brave boy and soon enough, the infection cleared up and he began to reveal his true personality.

Barry thrived in his foster home where he enjoyed sprawling across the entire length of the sofa and playing with squeaky toys. He spent most of his time zooming around the garden which had lots of room to stretch his legs.

Susan also took him away in the summer for a change of scenery. The first mini-break was in Dorset where Barry enjoyed paddling in the sea and watching all the goings-on at the beach! In the evenings, he loved relaxing in the cabin beside the toasty log burner.

On their return, Barry had a little hiccup in the garden. He was having a play and getting up to all sorts of mischief, when he fell into the pond and cut his leg! He paid a visit to the vet and left with a few stitches. But he made a full recovery and it wasn’t long before he was playing with his squeaky toys again.

His second adventure was to Hampshire where he enjoyed a camping holiday. And it’s safe to say he had a wonderful time in the great outdoors – sleeping under the stars, exploring in the tall grass and sniffing out new scents, while taking in the fresh rural air.

There were of course, plenty of opportunities to relax in the sunshine for a little nap too! Barry got to spend lots of quality time with Susan and Jerome and they were able to make some lasting memories together.

Meanwhile, our Rehoming team were looking for the perfect home for him. Barry needed a quiet abode where he could enjoy lots of chill out time and plenty of zoomies in equal measure. So you can imagine how happy we were to find an ideal match in Charlotte who decided to adopt him! Charlotte tells us “He’s a happy boy who enjoys the good life with all his usual home comforts including his squeaky toys, a garden for zoomies and a sofa to lounge on.”
