Family and environment

What kind of family am I looking for?

Some hamsters can make a lovely first pet for children who are able to offer a calm, patient and confident approach. Hamsters can get spooked easily, so that natural understanding of animal behaviour is needed for these critters. They can enjoy coming out to be handled and will take treats from your hands. Hamsters are nocturnal so will sleep more in the day and be active at night, they may not always appreciate being woken up so may not suit a family who are keen to have lots of interaction.

What type of environment would suit me?

Syrian hamsters like to burrow and travel large distances so need the biggest cage you can budget for. The minimum size is 100cm wide by 50cm deep by 50 cm – This can be achieved in a tank style set up, or a cage with maximum bar spacing of 1cm.

About Bonnie

Sweet Bonnie, she is still settling in with us at Woodgreen, but over the past couple of days she has really started to grow in confidence. She can still be a little jumpy with quick movements, we are taking things at her pace which is helping to make her feel more safe. She is a very sweet girly, who with a little bit of time and trust building she is going to blossom into a really lovely companion for someone. Bonnie has begun to take food from our hands and is now exploring her enclosure when we are around, she has even become inquisitive into what we are doing around her, giving little sniffs and brave steps towards us.

If you can give Bonnie her forever home, please do contact us via the website.

Interested in applying?

While we change over our systems (22-27 April), you cannot apply for a specific pet. Instead, our team will try to match you against the pets we have available when we are back online.
