Support and Health

How much training will I need?

Needs ongoing support

Can I be left alone?

Potentially, once settled

Star came into us as a stray so we don’t know if she’s been left home alone before.

Any time home alone would need steadily building up over time after a settling in period but she should be able to do a few hours.

Do I have any medical conditions?

History of

Star has historic medical conditions, namely an umbilical hernia (repaired) and we have also operated on her eye lids as they were turned inwards. These will require consideration before this pet is rehomed.

Our rehoming team will be able to give you further information if you apply to rehome her and you are a successful match.

We would also advise that any medical conditions, be that historic or ongoing, are discussed with your own vet prior to taking them home.

Due to the nature of the medical condition around her eyes, a vet call with one of our onsite vets will be required before the pet goes home.

Who I can live with

Can I live with dogs?

No

Can I live with cats?

Can I live with small pets?

Additional information

Akitas are naturally quite a solitary breed. Star would prefer not to share an indoor environment with other dogs or engage in off-lead play.

She could, however, do well with a few large-breed walking companions, provided they are confident, calm, and respectful of her need for structured interactions.

Family and environment

What kind of family am I looking for?

She can also be a very bouncy girl. We feel she would be best suited to older, dog-savvy children 13 years +, who are familiar and with the breed.

What type of environment would suit me?

Star will need her new home to have a private garden with at least 5.5ft fencing so she has a secure space to run around and to help with her toilet training.

About Star

Star is a big softie with a heart full of love. She adores her people and will happily lean in for fusses and cuddles. With her big, charming paws, she can get a little bouncy when she’s excited, so she’ll benefit from learning some polite manners, but her enthusiasm comes purely from joy when greeting her friends.

Star is a beautiful girl, inside and out. She enjoys the company of larger, confident dogs and can walk nicely alongside them.

If you’re looking for a loving, affectionate companion with plenty of personality, Star might just be the perfect match.

American Akitas are gentle giants, but not exactly social butterflies. Don’t be fooled by their quiet exterior, though – they can be playful and affectionate too! Learn more about the breed at Ask Woodgreen.
