Joining forces with the RSPCA and Cats Protection

Woodgreen’s Outreach team often partner up with organisations to help pets and their people in the community. One memorable case for the team is when they supported an owner with 26 cats who all had feline parvovirus, a severe illness in cats.

Many of the cats were pregnant and needed urgent treatment, but resources were very limited as local rescue centres didn’t have space to take in more cats. Vets were also unable to do neutering procedures whilst the cats had an infectious disease.

With this in mind, we had concerns about the virus spreading to the wider cat population, so we had to act very quickly. Our Outreach and Vet teams joined forces with the RSPCA and Cats Protection to vaccinate all 26 cats in the home. Thanks to funding from Cats Protection, they were also safely neutered at Woodgreen. Between the three charities, we took in a number of cats, leaving the owner with a more manageable number. In this instance, a problem shared really is a problem halved!

It’s been a very busy year for our team, they’ve been on the road with Dennis, our community outreach vehicle, establishing new partnerships with food banks and helping pets in need.
