Norman the Terrier arrived in a worrying condition

A huge tumour meant 11-year-old Norman could barely lift his head. We knew he must have been in a lot of pain.

How we helped Norman

The large lump on the side of Norman’s head was incredibly uncomfortable, ulcerated, and surrounded by flies.

As soon as he arrived at Woodgreen, we rushed him into emergency surgery. We desperately hoped we could remove the nasty lump, and give him a chance of recovery.

After a delicate and complex surgery, we were relieved to able to safely remove the painful lump. It was sent off for testing to make sure it wasn’t anything dangerous.

Thankfully, the test results confirmed that Norman’s lump was benign, which meant we could focus our efforts on helping him recover from his surgery.

It was important for Norman to get plenty of rest, so we gave him some medication to keep him comfortable. He also had to wear a protective collar to prevent his scars from becoming infected.

Senior pets like Norman can spend up to twice as long in our care, getting the dedicated care that they need before they are ready to be rehomed. But Woodgreen are there for them, however long it takes.

A new start for Norman

As Norman started to feel better, we could see more of his charming personality shining through. Despite being a senior dog, he was very playful and friendly with everyone he met.

Walking around site, he insisted on stopping to say hello to everyone he could!

It took weeks of care to get Norman back on his paws, but finally, he was ready to find a new home where he could spend his golden years – happy and pain-free.
