Mindy being assessed by our vet

This tiny kitten was fighting for her life

Mindy was just eight-weeks-old, struggling to breathe, and at risk of losing one of her eyes. Thankfully, she found her way to Woodgreen.

Mindy's arrival was an emergency

She was suffering with an eye infection and a severe case of flu – coughing so badly she could barely breathe. We took her to see our veterinary team straight away.

Most worryingly, her left eye could hardly open, and we were worried she might lose it.

We got to work as quickly as we could to get Mindy the care she desperately needed. We started with some medication to soothe her poorly eyes.

But Mindy wasn’t out of the woods yet – she had eye drops to take regularly, and full recovery would take time. We still didn’t know if we could save her eye.

We also still had to treat her for her nasty flu, which was causing her to cough almost constantly. Cat flu can be stubborn, and as Mindy was so young, it was crucial that we helped her feel better as soon as possible.

To help Mindy’s recovery, we sent her home with Paiton, one of our experienced kitten foster carers. Paiton made sure Mindy had plenty of warm and cosy spaces to rest and heal.

With ongoing support from Paiton and our veterinary team, Mindy was able to recover smoothly from her flu. We turned our attention back to her sore eye. It was still sensitive and had some discharge, but to our relief, we were able to confirm that we wouldn’t need to remove it.

Boisterous and bonkers

As she recovered, Mindy’s confidence and curiosity blossomed. Gone was the tiny, vulnerable kitten – Mindy was now described by her foster carer as “boisterous and bonkers”!

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for someone to fall in love with her and offer her a new home.

Today, Mindy is safe and full of curiosity, spending her days playing, snoozing and being cheeky – like any other healthy young cat.
