Pet advice from Woodgreen
From behavioural issues to dietary needs, we’ve got you covered.
Like other small pets, they should be kept safely away from other animals in the home. As prey animals, they may feel threatened by the presence of other species such as cats and dogs.
Mice can make lovely first-time pets for children who are calm, patient and confident. They often enjoy coming out to be handled and will happily take treats from your hands. A family who finds joy in watching their pets have fun climbing and exploring their set ups would be perfect for mice. They will need gentle handling and a quiet approach, as they can sometimes be startled and can be quick when they run!
Mice are active and curious animals that love to climb, dig and explore. A suitable enclosure for a group of 3-4 mice should measure at least 80cm wide, 50cm deep and 35 cm high, with bar spacing no greater than 7mm. Being such active animals, providing them with lots of different types of enrichment will ensure they stay happy.

These boys are very entertaining to watch. Although they can be a little nervous at first, it doesn’t take them long to settle in their surroundings and show their curious side.
They have quickly adapted to their new routine here at Woodgreen and are very active first thing in the morning whilst waiting for their breakfast. They seem to thoroughly enjoy free range time and exploring a new space together. They each have a cheeky personality and often steal each others snacks! This wonderful group can keep you entertained for hours whilst watching them keep themselves busy.
